While interim management shares some similarities with management consultancy, there are important differences. These differences manifest both in delivery of services and routes to commissioning. Interims are hands-on managers, often serving a man-management role within a company, generally with engagements of 6-9 months. Where consultants are generally concerned with strategy, interims tend to focus on delivery, and are often used to cover maternity, recruitment gaps or periods of change, where there is a need for an experienced manager to “hit the ground running” and bridge a leadership gap.
