Having worked with multi-national organisations throughout her career, Fiona has recently chosen to expand her experience and work with SMEs and Start-ups in varied market sectors. This blend of experience allows Fiona to operate as a critical friend; she quickly grasps key drivers, brings shape and clarity to business direction and supports improvement and the growth of organisational resilience.
Fiona started her career in Marketing and worked initially at Watney Mann and Dairy Crest Foods. She was part of the team that launched Budweiser very successfully in the UK, achieving 95% distribution on the retail market. Fiona then joined Mapa Spontex progressing to UK Marketing Director, International Marketing Director and International Divisional Director with General Management responsibility and full P&L accountability across the division.
Fiona’s key achievements at Mapa Spontex include pioneering the use of consumer insight that resulted in the company becoming UK Category Leader, developing new marketing approaches, re-branding multiple product ranges and leading a restructuring of the global Marketing function. She also spearheaded a 40% increase in sales in Argentina, doubled sales growth in the Middle East and led the creation of a new subsidiary that established a route to market in China.
Fiona currently supports a range of clients in varied market sectors. Achievements include enabling a global mailing and distribution services company to expand their international operations and introduce new product offerings through the development of the Sales & Marketing strategy. She has also worked closely with a successful consumer goods company to develop a stronger strategic Marketing approach to consolidate their position and deliver growth and long term stability through the development of branding and consumer understanding.
Fiona is a strong communicator and motivator who listens, influences, challenges and persuades stakeholders at all levels to develop common purpose and remove barriers to progress. She holds a reputation for being pragmatic and forthright but also brings sensitivity and diplomacy to difficult situations and builds stakeholder confidence in positive outcomes. Fiona uses her career experience to facilitate insightful commercial and financial analysis and support highly effective business decision making.
Fiona holds a number of volunteer Board level roles; she is Chair of the Appointments & Remuneration Committee and Vice Chair of the South West Regional Board for the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) and she has recently managed the recruitment process for a new CIM Chief Executive. Fiona is also a Trustee of the University of Gloucestershire Students’ Union. Fiona uses the experience gained from these roles to continue to develop her skills and understanding of how different organisations operate.
